AT THE END OF 2011, THE EU ADOPTED A NEW AND SHORTER DEFINITION OF THE CONCEPT OF CSR (CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY): "THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ENTERPRISES FOR THEIR IMPACTS ON SOCIETY". This definition has been further elaborated on by the EU so that it is made clear that businesses should have processes in place to integrate social, environmental, ethical, human rights and consumer issues in their operations and strategy with the purpose of creating 'shared value' for both the business itself and society and to counteract any adverse impact the business may have on society.
